Ways to Make Brushing Time Fun

Brushing and flossing their teeth is probably the last thing on your child’s mind. Sometimes they even dread doing it. However, Jamboree Dentistry understands there are some things that you can do to make brushing seem less like a chore and feel more like fun.

Appeal to Their Taste

Children can be picky when it comes to flavors. Try out toothpastes with different flavors and let your child pick their favorite one. The right toothpaste can make all the difference.

Give Them Control

Let them pick out their toothbrush. One with their favorite cartoon character or one that lights up might help them get excited about brushing. After you allow them to do this, you might have a harder time getting them to stop brushing.

Brush and Floss Together

Brushing your teeth together is one way to help kids understand what needs to be done and how to do it. When they are still young enough that you need to brush their teeth for them, give them a special doll or a stuffed animal and let them practice on the doll’s or bear’s teeth.

Give Lots of Compliments

Use positive reinforcement to show them that they are doing a great job. They’ll be more likely to continue when they see how happy you are, so perform a happy dance or whatever it takes to show them it’s something they should be excited about.

Make it Fun and Musical

Brush to their favorite song or make up a song that is two to three minutes long. When the music stops, they will be done brushing, and they’ve brushed for the recommended time.
