Annual oral health screenings are incredibly important to a child’s overall health and well-being. So much so that some states actually require children to have a dental screening before starting school. Further, some schools request proof of dental health screening at the beginning of the school year to add to the child’s records.
The annual dental checkup involves:

- Examining the teeth for signs of tooth decay that could pose problems
- Cleaning the teeth thoroughly to remove plaque and tartar buildup
- Checking for gum disease, which is growing increasingly common among children
One often overlooked advantage of taking care of the annual checkup before the new school year is; that it can be easier to work in a time to come in when school is not in session. Once school starts, most students need appointments outside of school hours, which can make it more difficult to get in on a day and time you prefer.
