Children can be more apprehensive about dental treatment than adults
Looking for a pediatric dentist in Houston, TX to take care of your child’s oral health? At Jamboree Dentistry, we offer a full collection of services to keep your child’s smile as healthy as possible. Take a look at a few of the specialties we have to offer in addition to general pediatric dental care.
Sedation for Pediatric Patients
Children can be more apprehensive about dental treatment than adults. Younger children may also have a hard time understanding what is being done, and their apprehension and lack of understanding can complicate treatment. We offer different types of sedation dentistry. Conscious sedation, which is often referred to as laughing gas, can be a good way to put a child at ease during treatment. However, general anesthesia given by an anesthesiologist may be necessary for more time-consuming procedures or oral surgery. During general anesthesia, your child will not be awake or aware that treatment is taking place.
Endodontic Treatment for Pediatric Patients
Root canals can be necessary if a child’s tooth is severely damaged or decayed. Most often, endodontic treatment is only recommended on permanent teeth. During treatment, the dentist removes the affected pulp that reaches into the deep internal structures of the tooth, fills it with filler material, and then seals the tooth. This treatment can be the best way to ensure a necessary tooth does not have to be extracted.
Pediatric Oral Surgery
Occasionally, oral surgery may need to be performed on pediatric patients. As a parent, it can sound scary to find out that oral surgery is necessary, but these procedures ar only recommended when they are important to your child’s oral or overall health. The most common oral surgery is the removal of wisdom teeth or third molars. At Jamboree, we take the time to talk to parents about the procedure, why it is necessary, and what to expect. We also do all we can to keep the child comfortable throughout treatment and after.
